I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. My dad was an electrician and my mom stayed at home to raise me and my two sisters. We are one-quarter Hispanic on my mom’s side, with lots of Padillas and Reynosos in the family, mostly now in California, but previously from Aguas Calientes and Tijuana, Mexico. I do speak medical Spanish.

I graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Arizona State University and attended Northwestern University Medical School, followed by OB/Gyn residency at UTMB-Galveston. Upon graduation in 1997, I moved to Harlingen to practice with one of my surgical instructors in residency. I am fully board certified in OB/Gyn, am currently an assistant clinical professor for ob/gyn at UT-Rio Grande Valley and UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, and previously at UT-Galveston Medical Branch. .

Annual Well Woman Exam

Because she takes the time to listen. She provided such a thorough examination and discovered some very concerning lab results. Now I'm following up and obtaining a new PCP... To resolve lab result issues.

I waited for 50 minutes to be seen Shimer herself is great. The scheduling is terrible. I waited for so long. Staff asked me about medication that was prescribed by the office. Office staff double books.

Even though I waited 45 minutes for my exam I was pleased with my visit. Dr. Manning gives you her full attention. She listens to you intently. She discusses her plan of what to do. I recommend her 100%!

Annual Well Woman Exam

The wait time was a little too long

Gynecological Exams

Staff told me when I scheduled the appointment that I’d be receiving an ultrasound because I’m in the range of 7-8 weeks. My husband and I show up and all they did was have me pee in a cup and do a Pap smear. Didn’t even confirm the pregnancy from the pee test. Then I went up front to schedule the next available ultrasound appointment since they missed that the first time, and the girl told me I had to wait at least a week. When in fact the doctor told me I needed to come back within the week. I got the next available appointment, but attitude came with it. The whole experience was disappointing. My husband and I took time off of work to go to this appointment together, just for them not to schedule the ultrasound I initially requested and confirmed. Everyone was in a hurry. The MA couldn’t go through my chart fast enough. The doctor made a comment “I told you fertility happens immediately after taking your iud out, so don’t do it unless you’re reallyyyy ready.” Yeah, no kidding… and not the right thing to say in a moment like that. Not to mention the rooms are old and don’t seem super clean and welcoming. This was not my first negative experience.

Pellets (Hormone Therapy)

Dr Shimer always takes her time to speak with me about my concerns and issues and speaks in a way that understandable and relatable. She is always offering options but not pushy or aggressive about it. She is on the forefront of the industry and shares insights when they make sense for her patients. Her staff is also always helpful and courteous.

OB Care

Dr Taylor has been nothing shy of amazing. I feel as if she listens, answers my questions and always makes me feel safe and heard!
