Mary Theresa Whitaker

Dr. Mary Whitaker decided on a career in gynecology while a medical student at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She found that caring for female patients with a listening ear and a caring heart could make a dramatic difference in the lives of the patients and in her own life too. She has continued with that philosophy since that time and never regretted the choice of career. Dr. Whitaker approaches health care based on each individual patient’s needs in order to optimize the health of all patients.

After finishing her medical degree at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Dr. Whitaker completed an internship and residency at Methodist Hospital of Dallas, a program focused on excellence in gynecologic surgery and clinical knowledge of both obstetrics and gynecology. She began her career in OB/Gyn at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton, and joined the physician staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Plano when it opened in 1991. After having four of her own children, she focused her practice on gynecology in 2000. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Whitaker is a devoted daughter to her mother with Alzheimer’s and a loving mother to her four children college age and above. She enjoys travel nationally and abroad, especially by bicycle, having cycled twice across her home state of Iowa on RABRAI, sharing the adventure with her husband of 35 years, Dr. Phil Whitaker.
