Since 2009, our board-certified OBGYN, Dr. Barrett Blaue, has treated women in San Marcos and New Braunfels, TX with reproductive medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Dr. Blaue is a proud member of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the TriCounty Medical Society.

Along with the other members of the surgical team at the Caring Center for Women, Dr. Blaue is certified in da Vinci robotic surgery. In the operating room, Dr. Blaue regularly performs cystoscopies, ovarian surgery, tubal ligations, and vaginal prolapse and injury repairs. He has several medical privileges to hospitals in the San Antonio – Austin, TX Corridor, including the Central Texas Medical Center.

Gynecological Problem Visit

My interaction with the doctor was terrible. I was there for a follow up pap due to abnormal cells. He was in the room for less than 3 minutes - that includes the pap! I asked if there's anything I could be doing and he mumbled something then walked out. So rude I was shocked. He didn't do anything else, just did a quick swab and didn't explain anything.

Office Visit / Follow-up

Felt unheard, dismissed. Waited 45 minutes for appointment. Doctor was cold and uncaring staying he had no idea I was even there. I would be very cautious when considering this practice. I originally went when we first moved here three years ago. I saw Dr. Blaue and found him to be very attentive, taking the time to hear my concerns regarding my family history of ovarian cancer. He referred me to Dr. De la Garza in San Antonio. The next year I saw Dr. Blaue for my annual it was a different experience. He was cold, unfriendly, seemed annoyed and decided not to do a full exam that day. I was disappointed but thought maybe it was just an off day. Fast forward to yesterday. 4/28/25. I went in for a follow up after having a full and total hysterectomy on 3/13/25 with Dr. De la Garza. I was instructed to follow up with my regular doctor. After waiting 45 minutes, Dr. Blaue came in holding a piece of paper, looked at me, tossed the paper on the table and said I have nothing, why are you even here. I was so caught off guard. I explained what I had originally explained to the nurse of why I was there. He agreed to check my stitches/cuff. He said, wait 6 more weeks before resuming regular activities. Anything else? I explained my concern for HRT as I am experiencing difficulty with my hormones. He told me that's not an option for me given my family history of cancer. He then stood up, said see you in a year and walked out. I sat there feeling very dismissed, unheard and unbelievably sad. He gave no alternative to HRT, asked me no further questions. Clearly unconcerned with my mental health after this hysterectomy. For reference I am 49 years old and the surgery put me into medical menopause. I think it is unfortunate that a gynecologist who has taken an oath as a doctor to work with women took this approach with me and treated me as though I did not matter. He rushed through the appointment, not caring just wanting me to go away. That is how I felt. I would NOT recommend this practice and definitely would NOT recommend Dr. Blaue. No compassion, communication or care was given at all. I felt small and very unheard. I would seriously reconsider this doctor when looking for care.

Dr did not go over any information or ask any question. Care summary indicated vaginal birth control was observed when I have not used that in several months. A prescription was called in for birth control when I indicated I am not on it and there was no discussion with Dr.

I had the appointment for an annual exam in which that part went well but when expressing concerns about hot flashes and the mentioned decreased periods was met with dismissal of my concerns about menopause. Instead of doing something as simple as a check of hormones with blood work it went straight to blood work (which I stated I already had to check thyroid and such), an ultrasound, and a biopsy. I will be seeking a second opinion and new doctor.
